How to Live with a Man Who Went to Boarding School

Tuesday August 12th at 5pm BST

Find out how to handle the difficulties and bring more intimacy into your relationship

Are you in a relationship with a boarding school survivor and finding it difficult to get through to him?

It can be really frustrating when he won't open up and talk, and this can lead to feelings of disconnection and isolation.

In this workshop I'll introduce some strategies to help you build more connection with your husband.

What are the challenges in your relationship?

Not all boarding school survivors are the same.

So you might have noticed one or more of the following:

  • He's really shut down and anything you say seems to bounce off him

  • He needs to be right or to be in control all the time

  • He seems depressed, but tells you nothing's wrong

  • He rarely seems to be present - it's as if you're on opposite sides of the world

  • He always has to win when you have a disagreement and he uses all the tactics at his disposal to win the argument

You've tried all sorts of strategies: Maybe you keep pushing him to open up and talk about his feelings. You tell him that you're sure something's wrong even though he denies it. You keep trying new ways to engage with him. Or you've tried standing your ground and arguing with him.

But nothing seems to work.

These are just some of the challenges you may have faced. But you love him, you're still with him and you want to make the relationship work.

What you'll get at the workshop

At the end of the workshop you'll come away with:

  • a deeper understanding of what happens to boys at boarding school that makes relationships so difficult for them

  • some insights into why what you're doing now isn't working too well

  • strategies and tools that you can use right away to help ease communication between you

Hi, I'm Sorrel. I'm a trauma-informed relationship coach, working with people who have hit a road-block in their relationships.

I offer couples coaching and 1-to-1 coaching to boarding school survivors and their partners.

I'm certified as a Relational Life Coach with the Relational Life Institute which gives me the tools needed to work with couples.

After qualifying as an NLP Master Practitioner in 2017, I started coach training and qualified as a Certified Advanced CLARITY® Coach & Facilitator. I am also a licensed One of Many™ women's coach, bringing a more female approach to coaching. Before coaching I worked as an osteopath and retired in 2022 after 20 years in practice, in order to focus on coaching.

I have a BSc and an MPhil in Psychology, and in recent years I've realised that there is much to be gained by taking account of our spiritual nature - or what you may call the 'true self.' This is the source of our innate healing, enabling us to heal from the inside-out, leading to better mental health and more resilient relationships.
