Sleep, dreams & the glymphatics: An interview with sleep coach, Lucinda Sykes

Sleep, dreams & the glymphatics: An interview with sleep coach, Lucinda Sykes
In this episode I talk with Lucinda Sykes, who is a sleep coach and mindfulness teacher. She is also a retired physician, who threw away her prescription pad in the 1980s. Lucinda now uses a holistic approach to support women over 50 to overcome sleep disorders.
In the interview Lucinda talks about the difference between sleep and the unconsciousness induced by sleep medications). It is in deep sleep that the brain cleanses itself via the glymphatics, which are a very recent discovery.
Lucinda's approach combines mindfulness and Jungian psychology with lifestyle 'medicine' and sleep science: for instance exposure to daylight, exercise and sleep hygiene.

Sobriety as an Act of Rebellion: Interview with Clarity Coach, Sam Goldfinch

Sobriety as an Act of Rebellion: Interview with Sam Goldfinch
In this episode, I am in conversation with sobriety coach, Sam Goldfinch. Sam talks about his teenage years when he drank to  manage ADHD and OCD. His journey took him on a quest to find out who he truly was. He came to see that alcohol (or any addiction) is only the tip of the iceberg, and that the real problem is the trauma and thinking underlying the  addiction.
Sam speaks of sober rebellion - a place of standing for oneself against  social pressure to drink. He works with people who want to let go of any  behaviour pattern which is not serving them, whether that be alcohol,  psychoactive substances, gambling or just behaviours which deny  expression of who we truly are.

The Bear Unzipped: Is there such a thing as an addictive personality? - Interview with David Bird

The Bear Unzipped: Is there such a thing as an addictive personality? - Interview with David Bird
In this episode, David Bird and I talk about addictions and the concept of the addictive personality. David starts by talking about his own experience of drinking, what that meant to him and how he was able to let go of it. We then move on to talk about how an addiction can feel like a place of safety when we are running away from a (metaphorical) bear. And what happens when we turn round to look at the bear..

Please be aware that David does use some strong language.

Transforming Young Lives: Interview with Clinical Psychologist, Dicken Bettinger

In this episode I asked Dicken to speak about his work with young people. He tells the story of a young man he worked with who "hated everybody" and never spoke in school. Dicken's approach of meeting his client where they are led this young man to the realisation that his hatred was entirely based on his own thought-created experience, and this led to a profound change that transformed his life.

Men who are hard to reach: An interview with Wayne Fletcher

Men who are hard to reach: An interview with Wayne Fletcher
In this podcast, Wayne talks about what lies behind men's challenge to share their emotions and the pain they feel. While men may be very present  when they are in action (fire-fighting or combat for instance), they  often find themselves caught up in a thought-storm when faced with mundane domestic chores. A lifetime of unwillingness to open up can make men hard to reach emotionally. A sad, and preventable, fact is that suicide is the predominant cause of death in men aged under 50.
